K-5 Reading Curriculum Resources

We are pleased to announce the adoption and full implementation of a new reading program
in grades K-5, Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (Amplify CKLA). Riverside recognizes that
adopting a strong, research-based reading program is imperative to the success of our students.
Therefore, prior to making the decision to pilot CKLA, much time was put into creating a team of
teachers and administrators to review multiple curricular options, meet with other school districts
to discuss their literacy curriculums, and analyze findings from a third-party curriculum review
organization, EdReports. Ultimately, Amplify CKLA was decided upon as the pilot choice for the
2023-2024 school year. The pilot year proved to be successful, and therefore, the team decided
upon full implementation of the program for 2024-2025.

Amplify CKLA provides rich classroom resources and lessons to help children become fluent,
confident readers while deepening their background knowledge and vocabulary through
exposure to a variety of topics. Research shows that background knowledge and related
vocabulary about a topic improves reading comprehension. Building on this critical research,
Amplify CKLA focuses both on developing foundational reading skills and integrating content
knowledge in science, social studies, and literature into the literacy block.

The District is excited to continue to help our students become proficient readers who develop a
lifelong love of reading!

concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to building administrators.  If any topic in the scope and sequence of the curriculum is against parent/guardian wishes, you may opt your child out of that lesson.  The administration will work with you and your family to provide an alternative lesson for your child.
