1ST PLACE AGAIN FOR RIVERSIDE TECH ED STUDENTS!

5 Students from the Technology Education Department attended the High School Engineering Day hosted by the Ellwood Group at the New Castle Forge. Small groups of students representing the 9 Lawrence County school districts participated. This event was sponsored by the Lawrence County - School to work program.
Part of the day's events included an engineering competition between the schools. Students were given a real design problem that existed within the ECF plant. Each school researched and designed a solution to propose. Riverside was tasked with designing a process to make grinding of steel ingots more ergonomic for workers. The group researched current process safety requirements to design a scissor lift style platform for workers to stand on. This included CADD drawings and materials and mechanical calculations.
Seniors Joe Eyerman, Christian Gaus, Chase Grinnell, Ethan Pilarski, and Junior Colby Belczyk received first place for their design and presentation. . The 4 seniors all plan to attend a 4 year college next year to study Engineering or a related field.
This is the 3rd consecutive year that Riverside Tech Ed students have received the HS Engineering Day Award. The Riverside Technology Education Department has been working with the Ellwood City Forge for several years with EITC funding and the School to Work Program
